Ironman Lake Placid by Rob Dill

I just wanted to start by saying thank you for all your positive messages and well wishing. As I was racing I was thinking of all of you and your thoughts got me through some tough spots during the race. For those of you who where following me during the race, I hope you enjoyed the coverage.

As for the race, my final time was 12:31:40, definitely not my best (11:37 in 2004), but I got through a tough day. It was hotter, more humid, and windier than predicted and I got beat up on the bike. As a result, my run was way, way off the mark. The good news is that because I was running so slow, I was able to chit chat with my friends and family. They were screaming GO!!! GO!!!!! GO!!!! and I was saying no, no no.

All in all it was a great day and I am already looking forward to my next Ironman, no I'm not kidding and no I didn't get hit on the head.
After the race I went back to the hotel showered and changed and went back to see the last people finish. At 11:58 ish, a NYC firefighter named Matthew long finished the Ironman.

Who is Matthew Long?

December 22, 2005 - New York City Firefighter Matthew Long of Ladder 43 was critically injured on the morning of December 22, 2005, after being struck by a bus at 52nd Street and 3rd Avenue in Manhattan while traveling to work by bicycle at approximately 5:50 AM. The bus pinned him and his bicycle to the pavement at a Midtown intersection. He underwent three days of emergency operations and received more than 60 pints of blood. He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where doctors spent several days just trying to keep him alive, then began to treat extensive damage to his right shoulder, pelvis, both legs and a foot, and repair severe injuries to his torso and gastrointestinal system. He needed skin grafts and muscle grafts, and parts of his body had to be rebuilt.

That's Matthew Long.

Can you say not a dry eye in the house?
amazing man, and an amazing effort.
What a way to end an awsome day!!!!

by the way, July 26th 2015 will be Ironman sunday. Anyone care to join me for a little swim, bike, and run?
I'll by the first round when were done!!!

thanks again for being so supportive.
